‘Retrospect’ – the new album release

My new album ‘Retrospect’ has finally hit the digital shelves around the world!

Recording this bunch of songs has been a hell of a roller coaster ride for me over the last three years with many highs and lows, stops and starts. The end was often in sight but out of reach for what seemed to be an eternity.  In hindsight or should I say in ‘Retrospect’ I should have known how hard it would be to turn twelve songs into a full length studio album.

This album represents a long journey, not only in the recording, but also in the songs themselves, which span a thirty year period of song writing, hence the name ‘Retrospect’. The album as a whole doesn’t seem to fit into any particular music genre – probably because of the many influences gained over such an unusually long period of time in which to write music for an album. Some songs fit neatly into a specific genre and others no doubt someone will categorize into whatever box is meaningful to them. And that will most likely be different for everyone. Go for it I say.

I was very lucky to have some of Perth’s finest musicians play on this record and also a very talented producer in Charlie Young from Crank Recording. All these people have helped to interpret and bring to life a collection of songs that were for so long trapped and unable to be heard outside of my own consciousness.

And so a massive thankyou to Charlie Young, Roy Martinez, Ric Eastman, Tom O’Halloran, Sheridan Drury, Steve Kelly, Mark Constable, Megan Hodgson and Beth Kuwertz for your contribution. Also to my wife Andrea for, as usual, allowing me to indulge myself.

And to those people who have managed to read to the end of this post, in this busy world of ten second sound bites and images, you surely are the ones that have patience enough to listen to forty five minutes of my music. At least stick it on your Spotify playlist and check it out when you’re in the mood! Thanks 🙂
